Mech 4 Problem

T

Tom Andrecht

I'm new to this group, but am having some major dificulties with Win XP and
Mechwarrior 4. Mech 4 runs great in single player mode, but when I try to
connect to the Internet to play online, it can't find it. Every other game
and program I have can connect to the internet just fine, so it's not my
hardware, XP, or my connection (cable) and I've tested the port range for
Mech 4 with a Microsoft tech on the line, but everything shows that it
should be working perfectly. Does anyone know how I can get Mech 4 to see
the internet? yes, I will be happy to provide more info if needed. Thanks

Tom

Tom,

Let me ask a few questions:
1) Are you trying to play through a direct IP connection? Have you tried
connecting through a portal like the MSN Gaming Zone (zone.msn.com)?
2) Have you updated Mech4 with the latest patch?
US/MW4pr3.exe) If yes, has the player you are trying to connect to also
installed the latest patch?
3) Do you have any expansion packs installed? (Black Knight, Mercenaries) If
yes, does the person you are trying to connect to also have these expansion
packs installed.
4) Do you, or the person you are trying to connect to, run a personal
firewall on your PC? Have you tried temporarily disabling the firewall to
see if you can connect?

Could you also include a copy of your DXDiag text in your reply.

To reply with a dxdiag text:
Click on Start -> Run and type 'dxdiag' in the run box, then click 'Ok'.
When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window appears you will see tabs across the
top click each tab and run the diagnostic tests on each. Then click the
'Save All Information' button, which will create a text file on your system
where you specify, as in My Documents or Desktop. Open that text file, copy
the contents and paste it to a reply.

Good attempt, but the 3Com NIC's drivers don't show up as it is disabled. I
use a Proxim RangeLAN DS wireless NIC to connect. Thanks for the attempt
tho. any other ideas?

Tom,

Thank you for sending your DXDiag.

Looking through your text file, I'm not seeing a file version for your 3Com
3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller. Dell's website shows the newest
drivers for that network card are v.ECD5.43A2(4.26), dated 2/6/2003 (file
name R49651.EXE). You can check this against the file version of the
drivers you currently have by going into Device Manager, bringing up the
Properties screen for your Network Adapter, and clicking on the Driver tab.
If you don't currently have these drivers installed, you might help to
resolve your issues by downloading and installing them.

To download the drivers, go to http://support.dell.com/filelib/criteria.aspx
and type the file name listed above into the Search box on the right side of
the screen to find the download.

Also, in the Properties screen for your Local Area Connection, there is a
window which lists "This connection uses the following items". What items
are listed there.

1. I only have zone match available to me. I don't have any private
servers that I can access.
2, 3. Mech 4 and Black Knight both updated to the latest versions.
4. No, no firewall. Also, this is a fresh, brand new install of
Windows
XP
that has been fully patched through Windows Update.

dxdiag attached. Thanks
