Me Too - Locked Out Windows XP Home

I too have been running my Laptop for years with no password. I tried to
start my computer tonight and it is asking me for a password just to get into
Windows. In addition, there is another user added to the screen that says
"ASP.NET Machine Account". I am not fluent on how to do the safe start and
things that are listed in the Locked out original question. Can anyone give
me some advice in plain english?
I have and HP and I am running the AT&T (Yahoo) security system when I am on
the internet.

Windows XP doesn't care if you don't password protect your account. It
will not lock you out or suddenly start asking for a password.

Installing updates to Windows will sometimes reset a feature that you
previously turned off. The next time Windows asks for a password, just
press Enter (i.e., a blank password.) If you're not allowed access to
your account, then someone has password protected your account: either
someone who has physical access to your computer or a hacker.

Asp.net is an account added by the .net framework, an update to Windows.
It's not a real user account, but is used by .net developers. It doesn't
cause any harm to your computer whatsoever.
