Me to XP upgrade (Leftovers?)

I hope some XP veterans can help... I recently upgraded from Me - XP and have
found several files/folders which appear to be "leftovers" from the original
Me install. Can these be safely deleted and is there a way to determine which
folders or files can be deleted? Most are in the Windows directory, such as;
UPGDLLS folder, UPGINFS folder, OPTIONS folder, SAMPLES folder, etc.

Also, are all those folders from XP upgrade/updates
($MSI31Uninstall_KB893803v2$, $NtServicePackUninstall$, $NtUninstallQ810577$,
$xpsp1hfm$, and so on...) necessary? There must be over 80 folders at the
beginning of the Windows directory taking up (unnecessary?) HD space.

Thanks in advance, Ron

If the upgrade is successful and you are sure you will not revert back to ME
from XP then go into Add or Remove Programs and look for a reference to ME
and delete/remove it. That should eliminate any and all pieces of the ME
operating system.

It is safe to delete all those folders under \Windows that have Uninstall in
their name as long as your are sure you will never uninstall that
patch/hotfix/update. After you delete the folders open Add or Remove program
and look for the listing of these same patches\hotfixes\updates and select
the remove button. Bercause you previously deleted the folder you will be
given the option to now delete the lisitng of that item.

DO NOT delete the folder \$hf_mig$

Thanks for your advice Jerry.
If I understand you correctly, it is safe to delete each (uninstall) folder
but not the first one - "$hf_mig$". The last folder in that set is
"$xpsp1hfm$" which contains subfolders like; KB835732, Q329048, Q817606, etc.
These are updates as well - should I keep this folder also?

Also, there are no references to Me in Add-Remove. The folders I am
referring to were there before my upgrade. Some are empty while others have
files dated from before my upgrade to as far back as 2000.

Thanks again for your response.
