.mdw Not Working After Upgrade

B

Brigham Siton

We have a system.mdw that has been working for years with Access 97 until we
decided to upgrade everybody to Access 2000.

For some reason, even if I join them to the old system.mdw file, Users are
not prompted to log on anymore.

To make matters worst, I believed I overwritten the old system.mdw.

So I tried creating a new one but still, the users are not prompted to log
on.

I am scratching my head now trying to figure out how can I make users to log
on again.

Thank you very much in advance.

You should give each user a desktop shortcut that uses the /wrkgrp switch to
point to the correct workgroup file.

"path to msaccess.exe" "path to mdb" /wrkgrp "path to mdw"

However, if they can even open the database using their default system.mdw,
then it was never secure to begin with.

I would also suggest you not name your secure mdw the same as the standard
mdw (system.mdw), as that is confusing and as you've found out, too easy to
overwrite the existing file.

I suggest you download and study the FAQ, and secure your database properly.
Starting fresh shouldn't be a problem, since it isn't secure now.

Perhaps start by creating a new mdb and importing all objects, and go from
there.
