MDAC Error during Boot

I am receiving the following error during boot-up.

"Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Doesn't appear to be installed.
Please download and install MDAC from Microsoft. [ENGINE] Unable to use
'recordset'. Error # 0x80040fa0"

I have downloaded this program and installed and re-installed numerous
times. I continue to recieve the same error message during startup. Also
noticed that LiveUpdate for Norton SystemWorks does not work now. Please
advise.

Which version of MDAC did you reinstall many times?
The Component Checker tool is designed to help you determine installed
version information and diagnose installation issues with the Microsoft
Data Access Components (MDAC).

S. Sengupta, thanks for your reply. I dld Component Checker Tool and ran.
Shows MDAC 2.8 RTM
What does this tell me about problem ? Not sure where to go from here.
Any help is appreciated.
