I am considering their Internet Security Suite 2005 v7.0
as a one-stop purchase anti-virus/firewall/spam/pop-up
thingy
I would be interested to know comments on Mcafee compared to Norton

thanks

Both are touted in these groups as "resource hogs."

a-v: Avast!
firewall: Kerio
spam: Thunderbird mail/news client has built-in junk mail handling
popups: Firefox browser (get the PrefBar extension too)

No, it isn't "one-stop" but the cost is zero dollars/euros.

I was wondering what Firefox plugin you're referring to. I searched for
"PrefBar" on the Firefox extensions page and didn't get a match.

Thought I'd offer my personal preference in case anybody else is looking. I
use a combination of SpamPal (www.spampal.org) and K9
(http://keir.net/k9.html). My mail client is set to automatically delete
mail marked as spam by both programs, and move to a separate folder for
verification if only one of them marks it.

In addition I spent quite some time training the built-in junk mail filter
in Thunderbird, but even after about a year it was nowhere near K9's
bayesian filter and thus I don't use it anymore.

After the first month or so of training K9, this combination has left my
inbox 100% clean. And by that I really mean 100%. K9 alone catches 99.7% of
all my spam so my sole reason for keeping spampal around is to get the
doublecheck to make it safe to auto-delete.

What does the prefbar extension do?
