McAfee vs. Lavasoft

Lavasoft: All versions of Ad-Aware are compatible with all major anti-virus
and firewall solutions. Lavasoft recommends you to use anti-virus and
firewall software in addition to Ad-Aware to keep your computer safe.

McAfee: The fact is that the Security Products of two different Vendors
can't function properly on the same system at the same time. They conflict
with each other and especially their registry entries which are not deleted
even after uninstall of the program from Add/Remove Programs. So you can
keep only one of the two on your system.

Hi Terry - Well, neither I suspect. You don't give references for either
quote, but I suspect that in context what McAfee is referring to is other
Anti-Virus (such as non-commercial Norton/Symantec . . err, stuff which is
notorious for interference with other software) and/or possibly firewall
software - that is things which are normally background-active within your
machine. AdAware on the other hand is a 'anti-malware' scanner which only
runs when you deliberately start up the program. There are many others
which fall into this latter classification and are completely compatible
with McAfee's security software - see my Blog, addy below in my Signature.
I use both AdAware and McAfee AV and have for years without any
interference.

That is a loaded question, not in perspective and out of context.

Neither is lying. It is out of context. Ad-aware is anti-malware of the non-viral type and
depending on the version, only does "On Demand" scanning.

McAfee is geared more towards viral malware and performs "On Access" scanning as well as "On
Demand" scans. In the conext of AV software it is unwise to use it with another anti virus
software package also doing "On Access" scanning. If you look at their FireWall
application, the same can be siad about using it conjunction with another FireWall
application.

So your unquoted un-referebced text is out of context and must be framed properly for a
question.
