McAfee Antivirus (Repeat)

Everytime I run McAfee virus scan my computer shuts down at some point.
However when I reboot it runs fine. This also was happening with Norton
before I switched antivirus programs. I also had it happen while running a
program call Regsitry Mechanic. However nothing else on my PC causes this to
happen. Any ideas would be welcome.

I've seen this happen with Laptops when they overhead due to the heat
generated by running the HD for so long....

Do you have a Laptop or a desktop?

Have you cleaned the Fans or made sure they were running without
obstruction?
 
I am using a PC and it only happens with those 3 programs, everything else
runs fine.

Do you have anything else that hits the hard drive as much? If not, then
it's understandable.
