I keep having my PC (XPpro) starting now and then in "XP Style" while it was
set as "Classic". Everytime it starts in (the unwanted) XP style and I
log-off and click my user account (no other accounts present) to logon
again, it gets the right Classic style. Is running Fdisk/mbr advisable in
this case?

First, you can not run fdisk /mbr. That command does not work in XP.

Second, you will not fix your problem. MBR stands for Master Boot Record
and you should only attempt to fix the boot record when you can not boot
your XP drive.

Also, I believe you need to have "administrator" type access so that the
settings of the XP Style could be changed/saved. If you have a limited user
type account, it may not save.

Thanks Yves, but I am logged in as "administrator" and still I can't lock
the "Classic"view. Do you happen to know where the "user profiles" are
located?

No. The MBR is purely a matter of setting standard code for the BIOS
to call and decide which of different partitions should be booted. It
has no effect whatever on windows, once that gets to be booted in the
first instance.
