Maxtor HD shrank ..... eeek !

My Maxtor 6Y160 P0 160 Gb drive used to be a healthy 160 odd Gb .
Just yesterday it has decided to be a 32 Gb drive instead .
I regret that quite a lot of ' stuff ' appears to have gone .
I would dearly like to get the ' stuff ' back .
What to do ?
I have Acronis partition repair program , which I am a beginner with .
As well I have partition Magic and Ghost .

Suggestions please .

BTW , how fragile are these HD devices . ... might this happen again ?
Is a RAID setup the best protection ?

I don't think this is an issue with the drive. Usually the only way
to get the drive to claim less capacity is by special jumper. I am
not sure, but I think the 160GB Maxtors don't have the 32GB limiting
jumper anymore.

More likely a driver or OS or perhaps BIOS issue.

I have heard that some of them "crash"...

Better than no protection, worse than verified, offsite backup.

So little you know, blabbermouth.

Utter nonsense.
