maxtor hardrive and xp

I have a maxtor diamond (not even a month old) and I have had to reinstall, reformat, etc the disk about 3 times. Now, when I boot up, and if I don't have the windows cd in the drive, i get the error, insert system disk; then it brings me to the recovery console. what the hell is happenning?????????????

Celeste, go to Maxtors website and download a diagnostic utility.

Do as the other reply suggests and download the Maxtor utility.. I have two
Maxtor 40gb drives that both needed full low level formats to become
anything remotely reliable.. do the low level format and then re-install..
you have to really think positive after that..
