Maxtor External Drive with Sony Vaio

I have a Sony Vaio FX201 notepad. The Maxtor Personal
Storage (3000DV) device is not being recognised.
I have read the Maxtor FAG regarding OHCI compliance and
my host contoller (Texas Instruments) shows as compliant.
The laptop is a 700MHZ AMD Duron processor with 192M RAM.
It's running XP Home SP1.
Any ideas? Anything I can try to get the laptop to
recognise the drive? I've tried the usual Add New Hardware
with no success.

Have you gone into Disk Management, partitioned, formatted and assign drive
letter(s)?
