Maxtor DiamondMax 10 HDD installation problems.

My friends bought a new DiamondMax 10 (ATA/133) HDD for his PC, but
cannot get Windows XP to recognise it. Reading Page 20 of the
installation guide (
http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor...nstallation_guides/ata_installation_guide.pdf
) they ( Maxtor ) recommend running the MaxBlast CD software to setup
the drive as "Additional Storage"

( This drive is going to be used for data, and the original drive hosts
the OS )

Everything appears to work fine, drive shows up in Drive Manager
afterwards and you can even copy data to it. Yet when he reboots the PC
the drive completely dis-appears.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Make sure the jumper settings are correct.
The primary drive should be jumpered as
the Master and the secondary drive jumpered
as the Slave.

In addition to Careys advice, go to My Computer, right click and select
Manage from the drop down menu.. now navigate to the Storage - Disk
management section.. identify the newly installed drive (the drive with a
large amount of unallocated space).. right click on it, and select FORMAT..

The system should now give the drive a letter, and it should be seen
normally..
