What is the maximum amount of RAM that Windows XP
Professional SP1 can access? Can it address up to the 4
GB limit imposed by 32 bit systems?

Yes, Windows can address up to 4GB with a small change to the registry. Be
aware that your motherboard probably does not support 4GB of RAM. Check the
documentation that came with your computer for details. Most consumer
boards top out at either 1 or 2 GB.

Thank you. Yes my current board only goes up to 2 GB, but
I'm going to be upgrading pretty soon to one that will go
up to the 4 GB limit. However, funding that, plus 4 GB of
RAM is the real problem... :) Thanks again,

Yes. If you go over 3GB, you need to add a switch to the system's line
in boot.ini - after the /fastdetect add a space and /3GB
