on a Win 2000 FAT 32 partition?

Thanks,

What do you mean by "maximum folder size"? The maximum
*file* size under FAT32 is 4GB, and there's no practical limit
to the # of files (or size) of a folder. Although, once you start
getting into a few thousands of files, FAT32 will slow to a
crawl on most file operations compared to NTFS.

Folders don't have sizes. You wouldn't want to load one up with 30,000 tiny
little files or anything though.

There is a limit of just over 65,000 files in a FAT 32 folder. The
number of files will/can be reduced considerably if you use long
filenames, I've seen them top out at less than 25,000 files. There is
also a file limit on NTFS but for any practicality it doesn't really
apply, it's something like 4.2 billion files.

That's amazing isn't it...
Bet it's gonna be like Gates saying, "noone will ever need
more than 64k of memory"
Just waiting for the chip behind my ear to be downloaded
while I sleep. This is tough of the old eyes.

There is also the issue of security of the NTFS system which
is not
available with FAT32. FAT32 is faster than NTFS however.

Thanks for all your responses; it has helped me understand this much better.
