Maximum excel file size

Is there a maximum file size that an excel document can
be? I have a document which is about 26mb and it will not
allow me to save any further changes to it.

No per se. It depends on system resource and what is in the file. I have a
pivot table workbook, updated weekly from an access database which is now
well over 40mb. You might get some help from
