maximized windows going behind Gadgets sidebar

I use to have this preference set but somehow it was removed and I forgot how
to do it originally. Where do you set the preference to stop maximized
windows from going behind the Gadgets' Sidebar? When I hit "maximize" on a
window I want the window to expand as far it can without the Gadgets' Sidebar
covering part of it.

Right click on the side bar and go to properties. You will find the option
there.

Checked there already. I get the following options after right-clicking the
sidebar and selecting properties:

-Start sidebar when Windows starts(selected)
-Sidebar is always on top of other windows(selected)
-Display sidebar on this side of screen(right is selected)

And after that I can display sidebar on monitor 1 and view list of running
gadgets.

There are no other options to select and my problem is not fixed.

You don't have "Sidebar is on top of other Windows"?

To do what you want, you have to size the smaller window yourself and not use
Maximize or uncheck Sidebar always on Top.

No, because I have had this preference already set in the past, it has just
been undone somehow. All I would have to do is hit "maximize" on a window and
it would expand covering the whole screen except my gadgets and task bar and
the edge of the window would stop at my gadgets with none of the window going
behind. it would look something like this:

So, you **DO** have the option "sidebar is on top of other Windows"! You
said you didn't.

Remove the check. Shut down the sidebar. Open sidebar. Reapply the check.
Shut down again - open again.

Sometimes settings do not get applied as they should if the system is under
heavy load when the settings are applied.

A reboot should tell if the setting has taken.

Sorry. Remove the check from the option. Then windows will be on top of the
sidebar.

When I check "Sidebar is always on top ot other windows" I get exactly what
you say. The open windows just comes up to the sidebar when maximized.
