Keep in mind that this can also be limited by the capacity of the
motherboard. Many older systems have limits around 384 or 512 meg, quite
separate from XP's 4 gig limit.

You guys got me real confused now.... ;
I was told that the maximum amount of physical memory winXP HOME edition supported was 1 GB. That only winXP PR
will support more than 1 GB, or as you stated, 4 GB. Please help! I have 1 gig installed (using home, at home), but woul
like to toss in another gig. Also, I was working on a machine that had xp pro installed, with a mobo that supposedly supported 2 gigs, but whenever I tried to boot it up with anything over 1 gig, the machine 'choked'. (To be exact, it would either freeze on the progress bar screen, where the progress bar stopped and it sat, or the screen went completely dark, and it sat....). Any help would be greatly appreciated

Windows XP Home and Pro both support 4 gig of memory. If you have a
problem booting up with more than 1 gig then it is a motherboard
problem. I run multiple systems with 2 gig of memory.

You were told wrong. There's no difference between Home and Pro in
this regard.

Whoever told you that was wrong. Either version will support 4GB,
though whether that much is *useful* is another matter
