MAX Filename and Path length

I am looking for a Microsoft article or documentation
listing the maximum file name and path length allowed in
Windows XP. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to
find this information?

I would try a Google search and then move to the
Microsoft Knowledge Base @

Select Windows XP and then "Filename length" as the
search string. Interesting question, as I don't know of
any website that deals directly with Windows XP's
architecture.

I've hunted similar info before, and not come up with anything definitive.
It's more a matter of what application you're dealing with - you may find
limits as low as 256 characters in some situations, others that are, from a
practicalble sense, virtually unlimited, that is, 1,2, or 4KB in size.
