Hi,

In Windows XP SP2 there is a limit of 10 concurrent users using the same
share on a XP machine.

How can I go around this ?

1. Install a real server operating system instead of XP.
2. Install an older Microsoft operating system such as Windows 98 (bad
idea).
3. Install a Linux operating system on the "server".
4. Replace the "server" with Mac OSX Server.

You can't, without some serious hacking.

You'd need to upgrade the machine to a Server version of Windows,
or Linux, or (shudder) downgrade to Win9x.

David,

Windows XP is limited in number of incoming connections. If you have more than
10 clients needing to connect to the same server (computer sharing files), you
need a computer with a server operating system, such as Server 2000 or 2003.

No, that's not quite correct. First it has nothing to do with SP2. Second,
it depends of which versio of XP you're talking about: at any service pack
level, XP Home has a limit of five simultaneous connections, and XP
Professional has a limit of ten.

You can't Get a server operating system.

People get confused because SP2 does impose a limit of simultaneous
incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts per second to 10.

Yes, and even if you could it would violate the EULA. If a they can
afford more than 11 computers they can probably afford a server OS, too.

And breaking the EULA.

(shudder) is right. Not a good idea. File sharing between 98 and XP is a
major PITA.
