matshita dvd/cdrw not working

The first thing I noticed is that when went to use Sonic record now it came
up with an error message: "This application failed to start because PX.dll
was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

The next thing I noticed is when I checked My Computer the dvd/cdrw didn't
show up beneath the documents and HDD.

So, I checked the device manager and noticed that it has a yellow
exclamation mark next to it and the propertys said"Windows cannot load the
device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.
(Code 39)"

I followed the troubleshooters instructions of uninstalling the cd
drive, etc. But it didn't help. I also went on toshibas support and downloads
and reinstalling the drivers but it didn't help.

What should I do? The only thing left that I can think of is reformatting my
HDD and reinstalling windows, etc. using my recovery disk. but I want to
know if there's anything else I Can try before giving up.

Thanks

not sure why
replacing the o.s.
would make a difference.

try viewing this thread
so we don't recreate the
wheel here:

also, i don't i have heard
anything good about the sonic
program. you might want
to use something else
then run an anti spyware or
further research via Google:
