Marlett font

Hi all

I wish to use the font 'Marlett', to use the checkmark
in this font, the keystroke for which is 'a'.
But I cannot seem to get rid of the 'small square' that appears next to the
cursor when I format for Marlett.

Windows ME, Office 2000 Premium.

Has anyone any ideas?

TIA

George,

Marlett displays a small square when there is no specific symbol
allocated to that keypress - try typing any uppercase letter for
example.

The particular one that you describe is actually the carriage return -
if you turn on formatting marks (Tools/Options/All) you will see the
small square turn into a carriage return symbol.

The way to get rid of it, therefore, is to select the square character
and change the font to a normal one.

Martin,

Thanks for the response, however...........

I have been given a word doc. to sort out,
part of the doc. is a table of 5 columns and 20 rows.
These 100 cells are formatted for the Marlett font,
they each contain the small square, (that i would like
to get rid of).
A user is supposed to click in one of these cells,
type a lowercase 'a', this becomes a checkmark.
Problem is, the small square remains too!, it cannot be highlighted,
selected, or deleted, or changed to a 'normal' font.

I suppose the question is this:

Can a cell, in a table, in Microsoft Word, be formatted for Marlett,
and not display the small square?

If you have any suggestions, I would be pleased to
hear them!

Many thanks

George Gee

The "small square" is probably the end-of-cell marker. Do you still see it
if you go to Tools | Options | View and clear all the check boxes under
"Formatting marks"?

Hi Suzanne

Yes I still see it/them!

But I have just discovered, that if I select all the cells,
and click on the 'Align Right' button on the toolbar,
they disappear!
I do not particularly want the checkmarks aligning to the right,
but at least I am getting somewhere!

Many thanks,

George Gee
