Marking messages with reply icon or forwarded icon

My inbox won't change the open envelope to show the arrow that tells me I
have replied to a message or forwarded it to someone else. Can anyone help
me get these back?

One of our users is experiencing the same issue. Running Outlook 2003 SP2 on
Exchange 2003 SP2. It doesn't happen with every email that is replied to or
forwarded from the Inbox but on a small percentage the icon does not change
to show the replied to or forwarded arrow even thought the message can be
seen in the Sent Items.

User is on a laptop with Exchange cached mode enabled and the issue occurs
while connected to the network. I've tried running the cleanviews switch but
some emails still fail to show the correct icon. The Inbox size is very small.

Any ideas?

How do I figure out what the configuration is? I have seen that some people
have this problem because it is email from a Hotmail account. I have also
seen that trying to open in a clearview may help. I am not sure what all of
this means.... I know just enough about technology to get me into trouble.

Outlook version and account type (which you've now stated is a Hotmail
account) are the two most important facts. I don't think Hotmail (HTTP)
accounts support the marking of messages as replied and forwarded. They
don't for me. If you use the most recent version of the Outlook Connector
and specify the Hotmail account as the delivery location, it might behave
differently, though.

Indeed, the default HTTP connector in Outlook doesn't support it. The
Outlook Connector does.
When you use a custom form the icon won't change either unless you have
programmed it to do so.
