Mark items as read when deleted

I have read many posts here asking how to mark an item as read when
you move it to the deleted items folder but no answer.

There are times, when you get into work in the morning etc, that you
look through your inbox and delete all the obvious spam (you can see
which is spam and which isnt by the sender and/or subject) without
having to read it.

There are times when an email is deleted by mistake, which isnt spam.
For this reason, I like to keep all the email I delete for a number of
weeks before they are deleted proper. However, I, like so many others,
do not like to look at a folder which says you have x number of unread
messages, it's simply very untidy and distracting. Right now, I have
to delete mail as normal, then go to the folder and click the 'Mark as
read' option for the item, or 'Mark all as read'. (I use Outlook 2003)
I don't like to use the preview pane as this can trigger certain email
virus's and I think we all agree on what a pain they are! :)

There should be a way to mark items in the deleted items folder as
read as they arrive there. My question is how do you do this?

If anyone from Microsofts Outlook dept reads this, perhaps it could be
added as an update or implemented in the next version of outlook? If
there is a valid reason not to, would you like to tell us so we know?
Thanks

Make a wish: outwish at microsoft dot com.

This newsgroup is not an official Microsoft Support channel and, while on
occasion a Microsoft employee may visit, enhancement requests are best made
directly to Microsoft Support.
