margins reset on shared document

yakule

hi!
i have a shared document out on our network. when i saved it, i had se
the margins to a specific width. but when other users open th
document, the margins seems like they're reseting to the normal.do
settings. it causes the document to look like a jumbled mess. doe
anyone know why and how to stop this from happening?
thanks

This is probably cause by the other users having different printers/printer
drivers active.

Hi Yakule,

First remove the check mark in "Tools > Templates and Add-ins... >
Automatically update document styles", if there is one.

If there isn't, the differences might be caused by different printer drivers
or fonts on the other machines. If your layout relies heavily on the exact
amount of space some text needs, this can mess up a document pretty badly.

Or perhaps the other users open the document in WordPad, not Word? That
would also account for different margins and a different text flow.

Greetings,
Klaus

Automatic updating would not change the margins, as reattaching a template
affects only styles, not layout. The difference in printer drivers is a more
likely cause. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm

Hi Suzanne,

I know... just mentioned it because it can give the impression that the
margins/layout changed.
And unless you jot down the margins on one machine, and compare them on the
other, it's hard to make sure.

Klaus
