Margin changes for an individual page in a document

J

Jeff

I only recently moved to Word 2002 from Word 95 and am still learning the
differences.

Because of a large image I was pasting into a document page, I changed the
top/bottom margins for that page to accommodate the image and text I wanted
in the page. I did this by moving the margin sliders on the left of the
page. However I noticed this changed the top/bottom margins for the _entire_
document, not just for that page as I wanted. I believe that was not the
case in Word 95.

Is there a way to change these margins just for that page without affecting
the other pages in that document?

Thanks

Word has never allowed you to change the margins for a single page. Margins
are a section property. You can change paragraph indents, but that does not
affect the top and bottom margins. For a single large image, what I would do
is change the wrapping. Click on the image to display the picture toolbar,
then click on the Text Wrapping button (dog icon) and change the wrapping
from In Line With Text (which makes the picture act like a giant font
character) to Square or Behind Text. This will allow the image to exceed the
margin area.

You will not, however, be able to put text outside the margins unless you
put it in a text box (and you'll need to have some text on the page, or at
least an empty paragraph, to anchor the image and/or text box to). So if the
above solution is not practical, you will need to insert Next Page section
breaks before and after the page on which you need different margins.

Jeff,
I'm afraid you are going to have to insert section breaks before and after
the page with your image and text. Then you can alter the margins just for
that section. Or you can drag the indent markers on the ruler to the desired
position for all the paragraphs on that page so that there is more room for
your image.

Thanks Suzanne and Luc. I understand now.
