mapping network drives as a service

Hi,
I have a network drive mapped to a windows 2000 server so
that I can backup this drive on its tape backup device.
However you need to be logged on as a user or this mapping
does not exist and the scheduled backup fails.
Is there a way to map network drives as a service so that
a user needn't have to logon?

hi terry formmy experince all u need to do is share the
fodler u want mapped to to all domain users or jsut make
sure adequte permisisons exsit between the systems that
way your map dirve shouldnt disepar even afte rlog off and
log on as long as u check the box - reconnect at logon
when mapping the drive this way the mapped dirve will be
persitent
unless u mean u dont want any use logged on the win2k
server which is acting as th media server? wy not jsut
lock it rather than keeping it logged off

Hello,

is it possible to use the UNC path with your backup software?
like \\server\share instead of g:\share?

Or you can create a user id specially for backup, add "net use" command to
map the drive in your backup software.
