mapi32.dll is corrupt

I just installed Office 2003 from a disk and cannot open Outlook. I get this
error message instead:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software.
Please reinstall Outlook.

Reinstallation does not help. All other Office programs work fine.

Rename all mapi files to .old - find and then run fixmapi (all with Outlook closed of course.)
