Map network drive problem

Guest

Attempting to map a shared drive results in several errors, depending on how
I try mapping. If I use "map network drive" and sign in as another user, I
get "not enough server space." If I use "net use" I get "error 53" after
entering my username and password. If I use "my network places" I get "the
folder you entered does not appear to be valid, please enter another."

One is running XP Pro, the other XP Home.

Thanks!

I do use NAV 2006 but this problem persists after it's been disabled, along
with disabling firewalls.

I only got rid of those problems (open a shared external USB drive on an
other networked PC) when I uninstalled NAV2006. Disabling NAV2006 didn't
solve the problem. I had a number of e-mails and phone calls with the
Symantec 'experts' and after trying a couple of related KB suggestions,
their conclusion was that I probably have to use a network compatibe NAV
version...

Did you have to uninstall from both machines or just one? Unfortunately that
may not be an option for me since I have to use NAV Corp Edition, or I can't
log into my VPN due to that pesky Cisco Trust Agent.

It's wierd, I can ping each computer (as long as I am not on the VPN) and
see each computer using "net view" but just can't get to the share.

No. Only the PC where I wanted to connect my external drive to. Once NAV2006
was de-installed on that PC, I could open the drive on the other machines
which have NAV installed.. Reinstalling NAV locked the external drive again.
The "not enough server space" prompt was what I got too, when trying to open
the shared external drive on the networked PC's. As far as the 'experts'
from the Symantec authorized support center told me, the NAV Corp edition
should be fine for me...

I FIXED IT!!!

Found this KB article, it really was the NAV 2006 Corp Edition causing this
problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177078/en-us

The error I was getting was System Error 1130. I went into the registry,
increased the IRPStackSize, and voila, it works.

Also anyone having trouble should check out this page, it has a
troubleshooter that is WAY better than the one included in Windows XP:

http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm

Thanks!
