Have many templates which require common data: icon, heading, signature drop
down selection ...
How do i reference a single occurance of the common data in each template?

The way you use these terms is unfamiliar to me. Are we talking about a

Yes, AutoText entries can contain just about anything, and if you use an
AutoText field, then the content will be updated if you change the AutoText
entry. An IncludeText field can be used to insert the contents of another
file (or part of one, if you include a bookmark); again, this will change if
the other file is updated.
