MANY IE6 page links are blocked with sound & unusual icon

Many people have commented on blocked links on this group, but MANY links
within many IE6 pages are blocked on my XP Home, SP2, occurring only after a
recent SP2 installation. The ODD thing is that when a link is selected a
loud bleep occurs and then an small internet page icon appears briefly,
within which is a large red X, indicating something has been blocked; this
disappears after a couple seconds. I have tried security settings changes,
disabling various settings, temporarily disabling pop-up blocking, etc., and
nothing helps. Ironically, in order to write this I had to open Firefox
because when I selected "new...question" for this group, IE6 blocked it and
that weird icon appeared. What is that, what causes it, and it there a cure?
It prevents me from doing a lot of research on IE. There seems to be no
pattern to the blocks. Thanks so much.

Hi,
Are you sure that you don't have another pop-up blocker working? Maybe the
Google toolbar, Yahoo companion, etc? Try disabling any/all pop-up blockers.
With only one IE window open, disable the IE blocker from Tools> Pop-up
blocker. Then restart the computer.

Hope this helps,
Don

No luck. No other pop-ups running. Tried turning off pop-up blocking
completely, still no luck. On a few pages I can right click and then select
"allow pop ups on this site" and the page will allow some links to be opened.
On the other pages this won't work at all. There is absolutely no pattern
to this blockage that I myself can see, but obviously IE6 doesn't like
something about the links that are blocked, icluding its own, since I
couldn't write this on IE6, only Firefox. Thanks for trying. David

Yes, but only antivirus, and I disabled it but the blocks continue. Might it
help to remove Norton entirely? I can certainly use other (probably better)
virus programs. Thanks. --David

1. Look at the Norton Options and make sure they don't include popup
blocking.

2. If you had NAV running during the install of WinXP SP2, you may have to
uninstall SP2 (from Add/Remove Programs) and re0install it with Norton
turned off.
