Manually set Restore point problem

I am trying to manually set a restore point and I get a message in Win
Xp Professional, "unable to set a restore point. you must restart the
computer and try again".. I restart the computer and then it does the
same thing. I successfully created a restore point before doing windows
update. This started happening after the updates were installed. How
can I get this feature to work again? I checked and it's not turned off.

Clear all your restore points, turn off system restore and reboot. Turn
system restore on again and set your restore point.

Check the free space on your drives. System Restore needs to see 200MB of free space. A lesser amount causes to not set automatic restore points.

Try this. Select RUN option from main Start menus. Type in
SERVICES.MSC <enter-key>

Review the line for System Restore Service. It needs to show Started under the Status column, with Startup Type of Automatic.
If need be, while in the Services control section, you can Start the service, or even stop & restart the service.
