Managing DNS - External name and internal mappings

Currrently, we have internal Windows 2003 / Exchange 2003 Native domain -
internal name = YYY.LOCAL, external name (publicly on Internet) = YYY.COM

Again, I have a public URL at YYY.com. Currently, the DNS hosting company
has a DNS entry for MAIL.YYY.com (our mail server) pointing to our public IP
address. That public IP address is then translated to our internal server
MAIL.YYY.Local (internal DNS name).

I would place a DNS server that hosts your external zone
in a DMZ. Remember to open up ports to allow DNS - 53.
You'll also need a public IP address from your ISP. Then,
you'll have to tell whoever you bought your public domain
name from, what server you'd like to be authorative.
Somewhere in their setup there should be a place where
they ask you for a DNS server address.

Hope this helps,

(1) I would like to have the freedom to add/modify hostnames for the
YYY.com domain without going to our ISP / DNS provider all the time -
what is the best way to handle this and some options? Thanks.

Many registrars provide DNS services with the price of the domain, if yu
registrar isn't one that offers this service at no extra charge, there are a
bunch out there that do.
