Malware Quick Launch to the moon...

Well, I finally managed to get the malware/adware crap
off my production machine (I did NOT download anything
related to this- there must have been a malicious website
visited- or one erroneous, hurried mis-click on my
part...) but now my registry is, at least, partially
hosed. My Quick Launch toolbar is inoperative and
missing. I can't add it back even though the folder still
exists with all its shortcuts intact. The registry must
be whacked. Short of doing an all-out reg-cleaning
operation (which is always iffy at best)-- or reinstall
of XP, anybody know specifically where in the registry I
might be able to repair the Quick Launch feature? The
only MS KB stuff I find talks about reinstalling the
folder and shortcuts but they still exist where they're
supposed to be.

If I ever come across one of these programmers who writes
this adware garbage I will personally kill him and spread
his internal organs across the road outside the building
for the rats to feast upon. This crap causes untold
wasting of resources and time. They should be prosecuted
just like any other virus writer- (this stuff DOES meet
the criteria for virus code) and then made to clean
public bathrooms in New Delhi or something...

TIA,

I have the same problem! I have been looking for days on
getting my system back to the way it was - clean! I'll join
you if you find out who wroye the program.

Malware is in the category of Spyware.

Run:
Ad Aware 6.0
Spyware: Search and Destory 1.3
CWShedder

the clear them off correct. Any other method you use to remove
them could damage your Windows (as you found out!)

I ran all these + Hijackthis etc. -- And TDS-3 (very cool
anti-trojan program) and reran them all several times in
safe-mode. That was the ONLY way I got clean. Problem is,
the registry is still hosed even though every scan was
done properly and I was very careful. This garbage is
painfully intrusive and hard to get rif of- and sometimes
creates problems in the OS despite proper cleaning
methods... freakin' PITA.

Try this. It was on one of the other posts. Seemed to
work for me.

Good Luck
