I have a computer I foolishly said I would look at (4 a friend). It has a nasty little Trojan known as “SpyShredder” I have uninstalled as per Symantec instructions
Deleted all reg key values by hand

Deleted all associated files {including uninstall}
Disabled systems restore and used McFee full scan as well as search and destroy full scan.

I have uninstalled it and checked everything; YUP it still comes back now as soon as I reconnect it to the internet…..I assume it has some scripting Host type thing-a-me-bob…..any suggestions?

The removal

Here is how I finally cleaned out this pesky software.

Follow the removal instruction provided on the Symantec web site.

It is best to boot into the “safe mode without a network” to do your work.

Use some application that will let you see what items are loading at boot up.

I used Ccleaner, and deleted a host file that was using the internet for the spy shredder.

Update and run Spybot search and destroy to find one or two other tricky items.

You need to delete registry keys and find one unistall file, not recommended for less then expert level users.

If you haven’t left anything behind you will be done…

It’s best to keep you malware and virus software, up to date to avoid

The nuisance

I did charge my client and gave them a speech on virus protection.
