Malware and Legacy registry keys

When removing malware from a system, is it necessary to remove any or all
Legacy_* registry keys?

I know it's best to remove all signs of infection, but do they present any
threat? Is it worth the risks associated with editing the registry?

Your best bet is to follow the explicit instructions of the publisher for
the antivirus program or let the application do it automatically. Many times
values are removed from registry keys and not the registry key itself. You
always can backup any registry key by exporting to a .reg file for later
restoration if you feel a need to be extra careful which many applications
also give you the option to do such. --- Steve
