I was just working on a research paper in Word and was
accessing a file on the internet and suddenly a screen
pops up and says a malicious script has been detected do
I want to stop opening the file I click 'yes' and
everything shuts down suddenly to just the desktop. Now
as I try to open any word file it looks all funny like
ziggy zaggy lines and the message box opens up and tells
me that there is not enough disk space for the script(?).
This has to be something wacky... Would truly appreciate
some help. The **** paper is due tomorrow. Thanks a ton!

Run a full virus scan of your system . . . sounds like you installed
something nasty; possibly a macro or script virus. DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING
WITH MS WORD until you get a clean scan.

Regards the mess made of your MS Word documents . . . try opening them using
Wordpad (which won't run macros or scripts), finish it and print your paper
out.

Then get back to us with more details of what happened and we'll try to help
you clean it up.

I ran a scan immidiately and it came up with one repaired
and one quarentined (sp). Still when I checked an old
word doc it was still reading goofy. I was banging my
head on the table and remembered that there was a way to
resore settings from an earlier time. I went in an sure
enough the last time was only 6 hours ago. I ran the
resore and then opened my paper. Voila! Let me know if
this is a false hope and if I should look for something
scarier hiding inside... Many thanks for your help Rick!

The only thought I would have now is to find your NORMAL.DOT template for
Word, rename it to NORMAL.OLD, close word if open and start word up to
recreate the NORMAL.DOT template. This just in case the global template
that applies formatting to all documents you open in Word is not corrupted
or infected by a macro virus. Your AV has caught and repaired/quar
something . . . did it say what and which files were involved?

First order of business is to finish your work and save it . . . preferably
in RTF format as well . . . sounds like you need all the protection you can
until your project is turned in tomorrow.

When you can and your computer seems stable, disable System Restore, restart
the computer which will purge all restore points and possible saved virus
within System Restore. Once the computer is restarted, re-enable System
Restore and set a Restore Point.

Glad you found a backup copy of your work,

Rick
