making sound work

I have a pps show that I have deployed on a web server. Several slides
use sound effect clips. I have 2 problems w/ the sound.

the first problem is that some of the sounds never play. the clips are
mp3 and they play fine when i play the show on my local pc. when i
upload the pps to my webserver, then d/l it from another machine, the
show plays, but no sound where the mp3 clips are supposed to play. i
thought maybe i need to add the mp3 clip files to the directory w/ the
pps, but then i realized how dumb that was--you actually d/l the pps to
your local machine before it starts playing. Is there a way i can force
the pps to embed these sound clips?

the second problem is that i have a couple of sound clips i got from
the MS online clipart library. So these are the native PPT sound
format. The first slide that uses the sound it works great. On the next
slide that uses the SAME sound clip, it doesn't play. Why is that?

I hope some one can answer these questions. TIA

Only WAV files will be embedded in PPT, not MP3. Convert your MP3 files to
WAV format (if they are short effects, they will not increase file size too
much). Change settings for sound size in Tools - Options to be larger than
your largest WAV file. Then insert them again.

Best regards,

Simply converting to wav format will increase the file size considerably

Download a free program Cdex : http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos

and use as below

Put the mp3 in a floder, open Cex and navigate to and select the mp3
In convert choose "add aRIFF wav header to ...."

You will find what appears to be a .wav version of your mp3 in the folder
along with the mp3 BUT it will be the same size! This file will embed in
powerpoint either by changing the tools > options settings as above or adding
as a slide transition sound (scroll down to other sounds in the transition
sound menu)

Thanks. This really looked like just what i needed, but unfortunately i
can't seem to get the CDex to run properly. I have a newer PC w/ WinXP
and i installed the ASPI drivers, but everytime I attempt to "add
RIFF..." the app blows up on me. I've tried it several different ways
and even uninstalled it and then reinstlled it, fresh boots and all. No
luck. I guess I'll just have to convert the clips into regular wavs.
thanks anyway.

You might want to give PFCExpress a try. It creates "pathless" links to the
media files. Instead of emailing the presentation use the "Save as zip"
option and then load it on your server. When your users download the file
it won't matter where they place it. You can grab a free trial from
www.pfcmedia.com

I would also suggest you use the "*.pps" feature so that when the client
clicks it, it simply runs for them instead of opening the editor.
