Making slide background transparent

I am using a picture from my file as the background for my slide show. I
need to know how to make the background transparent so that I can type and
put pictures on top of it. I have done it before, but I forgot how I did
it!!!!!

I think you've place the image on your slides so you can't access the
placeholders. Do this:

CTRL - X to cut the image from your main slides
View > Master > Slide Master
CTRL - V to paste the image on your master
Keeping the image selected go to your Draw menu then select Order > Send to
Back (not send backward)
