Making my machine legit

I have a dual xeon multidisk machine that had previously had, sorry to say, a
less than legal version of XP pro installed. I purchased a new copy of XP
Pro, full, and attempted to install it on this machine. It continued to fail
with the stop message indicating that the hard disk could not be read (a new
ide drive). After several attempts I resorted to the less than legal disk
and it installed flawlessly. All of my other machines are on the up and up,
and I want this one to be also.

My problem now is how do I take advantage of my new, never installed,
version of XP pro to install SP2 and use this machine legally. Can I call
microsoft and will they be able to see that it is a new piece of software
from the key? Or is the solution to somehow overwrite the installation with
the new software.

Should have been clearer that the install problem results in the Stop
Ox0000006F message that according to MS.com is the result of a faulty drive
mbr. It works with the bad software however. Thanks in advance!
