On a newly installed XP platform, how does one make the "take a tour" thing
stop appearing at login? I notice the balloon vanishes on its own after a
while, but that's not enough. I want it gone.

If you want to disable the Take Tour of Windows XP that comes up after you
install WindowsXP:

1.. Start Regedit
2.. Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour
3.. Create a new DWORD key called RunCount
4.. Give it a value of 0

There is a registry fix but it's far quicker just to start the tour then
immediately exit. It's a pain but quicker than doing the regedit.

I'm allergic to tours. My parents always travelled that way, so I'm
traumatized for life.

Open the Tour onces. Click inside then popup when appear and make a few
clicks to forward it. Close the Tour and it will never popup you again.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!
