Make outlook my default mail client with network connection

Last week we set up a network between home computers myself being the host
(xp home) the others being xp (laptop) professional and a windows 98. I use
Outlook 2000 as my default email client. Since networking I find I can still
send in Outlook, messages and files and pictures direct. (so can the
separate account on the laptop). But now all incoming mail comes through
Express. I have checked all the settings. Outlook is still set as default.
I much prefer Outlook and we do want to keep our accounts separately. Help.
Cannot find the answer in any help files.

Express can't download the mail if you don't run it or if you remove the
mail account from it.

Many thanks for your reply
I do not know how to get rid of Express? I do need Express occasionally
since for some reason some of my contacts who have not activated Outlook
cannot open attachments from it so I have to send there's in Express. I
would like to know how go back to where it all worked properly. e.g. this
morning I opened Outlook and a message actually came through. But I then
opened Express and 6 had been delivered including yours. What can I do

I never said to get rid of it. In fact, you can't get rid of it.

My guess here is that you're sending the message in Outlook's RIch Text
format, which non-Outlook mail clients can't handle. The usual effect is
that the recipient sees no attachment. Try always sending your messages in
Plain Text (preferred, in my opinion) or HTML

If you wish to use Outlook Express for sending from time to time, open
Outlook Express, click Tools>Accounts, select your account, click
Properties, and uncheck the box that says "Include this account when
checking for new messages". Then when you start Outlook Express, it won't
pull any messages from your mail server, leaving them there for Outlook.

I am very grateful for that tip re Outlook Express. i.e. stopping mail
entering it.
The other problem was a stupid mistake on my part. In changing my settings
via a LAN connection I had used my broadband address and password . As soon
as I changed it to the main email address and password everything worked.
Many thanks again.
