Make CountIF work like SUMIF

How can I make COUNTIF work like SUMIF? What I am looking to do is on sumif
you have "range,criteria,sum_range" on countif you have "range,criteria" I
need a count range.

BTW, Debra you helped me in the past with a sumproduct issue.

Help me a little more, I am an excel idiot when it comes to sumproduct.
More detail will be helpful what I'm trying to do is I have 2 managers doing
the same job in the same department. The current spreadsheet counts the
department as a whole I've added a column with the managers initials and I'm
trying to seperate the total numbers by manager. I appreciate any help you
can give.
