Make a 64 bit upgrade available to 32 bit Users

I posted this in the Update section, so i'm making a post over here, too,
since I can't find an upgrade specific section, and i'm not sure where this
should go, anyways.

I originally got the 32 bit version of Vista because of all of the issues
that were experienced with the 64 bit version of XP. Who knew it would
actually get better? Microsoft, all you have to do is off a .iso or any
other file that can burn an image to a DVD and allow us 32 bit owners unlock
the potential of our 64 bit computers. It is only fair and right, especially
since you're essentially telling us to buy a whole brand new version of your
software when the solution is simple. It would take minutes to make a copy
available that would allow the 64 bit upgrade... but would take me at least
16 hours of work to make enough to buy ANOTHER copy of Vista. PLEASE make
this available for a reasonable price. Thanks. Hope this doesn't fall on
deaf ears...

The 64-bit version of the Vista disk IS available for a nominal shipping charge.
The instructions for obtaining it are included in the Vista 32-bit package.

Got mine in about 1 week.

I thought that when you bought a new copy of Vista, there was an insert
advising to send off for the 64-bit version? If your copy of Vista was
already installed on a machine, then your request needs to go to the OEM.
Your license code will work with the 64-bit version...it's just the disk you
need.

If you purchased the Retail version then you have the option to get the
64-bit media at minimal charge (Ultimate has the disk in the box).
If you purchase your device from an OEM then you should deal with OEM about
swapping out your 32-bit for 64-bit or should have ordered the device worth
the 64-bit version to begin with.

The only ones left are those who purchased generic OEM products - you made
the choice at purchase time of only 32-bit or 64-bit - that was your choice.
Why should you as a purchaser of the OEM product and thus expected to be a
technically competent user be then offered a free swap out for a poor
decision you made ?

I was told companies like Dell do not support the 64 bit version of Windows
Vista. All you can get is the 32 bit version and you can't order the 64 bit
version later because you have an OEM key. So this limitation does not only
affect those trying to get a cheap copy of Vista.

If you bought Windows Vista retail, you already have the option of
getting 64 bit on DVD for a small price.
If you bought Windows Vista Ultimate, you should have 2 DVDs, 32 bit
and 64 bit.
Also see:

However if you bought OEM, what you get is largely determined by the
seller and not Microsoft.
Another of the many reasons OEM is cheaper than retail.

Not true - you can go to the Dell web site right now and order a machine
with the x64 version of Vista, it is just an option on the OS page
