Possibly...but it may be a drive problem

heres an update on my problem:
after trying to restore my computer in safe mode I was able to log on
to my computer without any problems so far. SO I think the problem is
not in the video card. However once my desktop loads up my system
freezes. I'm not sure about the driver. Any suggestions on what I
should do now??

Bad typo...sorry

I meant *driver* problem.

From safe mode...set the video to low resolution
and colors
then try to boot normally.

If you can boot normally, try updating or reinstalling the video drivers

I made a typo, the reposted to correct it, but it has not yet shown up

Anyway I had meant to say it may have a driver problem.

Set the colors and resolution to low (in safe mode if necessary)

then update to reinstall the drivers for the video card

the mfg should have the latest drivers and they'd be preferable to any found
on Windows Update

Sounds like heat-related mainboard damange - which can affect a whole system
in a laptop such as the one you describe. You can test this using a BartPE
boot CD - does the BartPE boot CD boot to Windows and can you use it
normally? If so - unlikely that it is a hardware problem - if not - it
points further towards it being a hardware problem (although not
definitive.)

Have it checked by a certified Lenovo technician (not a Best Buy/Circuit
City Squad/Dog tech) for a hardware issue and replace the parts as needed
(or get a new laptop - may be better/less expensive depending on the age of
said laptop.)

You may end up having to have the mainboard (which is likely all-in-one and
includes the video card, etc - being a laptop, although it could have a
video card module I suppose) replaced and the internal fans checked for
issues.

Thanks for all the replies!
I don't have any boot cd but my computer is a little better after
sitting for a while so heres the update. I can log in but than the
screen shuts down. The windows system is still running because I can
hit the capslock key and the light shows. I'll try next time by
connecting an externel monitor to my laptop to see if the problem is
just my screen. Thx for the video driver suggestion.

P.S. I'm not sure wether this has anything to do with ths but I
recently upgraded my directx to 9.0 on wednesday and my computer
crashed on thursday.
