major problem with windows boot

Paul Gunson

this windows start-up problem is driving me insane. every time i power
on my system (or reboot) when it gets to windows it freezes when i open
explorer (eg. when opening my computer, no drive icons appear). oddly
enough, if i hard reset, it then boots normally. but of course the
problem keeps re-appearing at the next power-on, its a pain in the arse.

i've isolated the error from event viewer that its related to but i have
no clue what it means:

Source: WinMgmt
Event ID: 61
"WMI ADAP was unable to process the PerfDisk performance library due to
a time violation in the open function"

my system was perfect for the first few months. this problem first began
when i plugged in an external dynalink hardware modem, since i removed
the modem it fixed itself (weird huh), but now a month later the problem
is back and i havn't installed anything.

specs: win2K SP4, Athlon64 3200+, K8X800 chipset, 1GB generic ram, SATA
raptor boot disk, IDE disk2, sony dru510A, no FDD, running Kerios
firewall and AVG.

.....would this problem be fixed if i upgraded to winXP...?

.
Update the device drivers, and run the system file
checker tool, click start, run, and type in this here;
sfc /scannow with that space after the sfc.
