Windows xp pro sp/2

I'm experiencing a hefty pause when right clicking on some files.
In particular it seems *.avi files always induce this huge pause.

Various other files do as well but not all files.

By `hefty' I mean as long as a full minute or significant portion of
a minute.

It is absolutly annoying for sure, but how to get a handle on the
cause?

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers
