Irratic pausing

My show, just 35 slides, has been running fine for over 4 months. (Updating
the slides weekly). It has begun pausing for as long as ten minutes (or
until I arrow right) before advancing. It doesn't pause on the same slide,
just a random pause on a random slide. It could even continue running after
a pause for hours before it happens again. Anyone running into a similar
situation?

What version of PowerPoint?
How long since host computer's last full re-boot?

I have rebuilt my show in Powerpoint 2002, 2003 and 2004. It has run on 3
different computers; 2 laptops and now on a HP Pavillion. All computers have
been regularly powered down over the weekends but run continually Monday
through Friday. I've updated all programs Again, this problem has only
recently begun. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

OK. Good. I was worried you had not re-booted in 4 months.

From what you have said, I would think that ...

... the ppt file is beginning to become corrupted. To fix this I would
try round tripping it thru HTML.
**HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00526.htm

... PowerPoint may have developed an internal problem. Try doing a
detect and Repair (on the PowerPoint Help menu pulldown).

... one or more of the transitions has changed (highly unlikely since
it stops at various places)

... if there is a macro/vba add-in running with the presentation, it
might be having issues. Try disabling all the add-ins/macros.

... the file/hard drive may be becoming highly fragmented. Try a hard
drive de-frag.

... there may be another software program (virus or whatever) grabbing
all the available CPU cycles. Check Windows Task Manager to see what else
is running.

Post back and let us know how you faired with these.

you could also try going save as
because just save will append the changers to the end of the file (if
quick save is switched on)
