MAJOR IE 6 Problems

Several weeks ago I was browsing music videos on Yahoo! music. While
watching videos, the IE Window had to close on several occassions, which I
thought at the time may have been related to my DSL connection. Every time
it closed down, I selected the "report the problem to Microsoft" botton, etc.
Then, when I attempted to simply open the IE program and log on to an
entirely different site, I got the "site cannot be displayed" error. At this
point, I again assumed it was a DSL connection problem. Since that point, I
have not been able to view anything using IE. I can browse all I want using
Netscape, so it is NOT a problem with my internet connection. I would be
fine letting IE go except there are million other programs out there that
rely on IE and assume that you want to use it as your browser. I can't buy
anything from iTunes, for example. I can't log into the web portions via
Microsoft Money. It seems like just about everything I try to do, the
program is somehow linked to IE and I run into a road block. . .
So, I visited the microsoft help pages and I have done everything I know to
do, including uninstalling IE . However when I attempt to re-install, I get
a message that the program is not verified for XP. Then I looked up that
error message and followed the several hours worth of "fixes". No luck.
The frustration is mounting and despite doing everything I have tried, I
can't seem to fix the problem!
Thanks!

Hi,
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." If that allows IE to work, another program is causing
the problem- probably an adware, spyware, parasite program.

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Or, the appropriate (for your OS) winsock repair tool may help:

LSPFix- all versions of Windows http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip

Winsock2 Fix- Win98, ME
http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the suggestion! However, no luck. I am now getting the box that
is stating, "Setup has detected a newer verstion of Internet Explorer already
installed on this system. Setup cannot continue."

If IE is installed, I certainly cannot find it!

Go to folder options...check show hidden files and folders. Then go to the
windows folder..inf folder..find the ie.inf file and right click. Choose
install. You may have to point it to a couple of files if it asks.

Ricky-
Thanks for your post! I did exactly what you recommended. I do not have
the "ie.inf" file. I have a file called "ie" and I have one that is called
"ie.pnf", but no "ie.inf" file. . .

Try right clicking the ie file and see if it has an install option. If not
you can go to start..run and type sfc /scannow (note the space between c and
/. You may have to reinstall any updates after doing it.
