Maintaining a standard OS image

Hi All,

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that someone was using the windows
toolkit to maintain a standard OS image.

What I mean is:
A student logs onto a pc, they install some software or change the OS in
some way.
To reset the pc back to it's standard image, all that is needed to be done
is a reboot & any software or changes that the student had made to that OS
are lost!

TIA
Daniel

The product that I know of that does that is called DeepFreeze by Faronics.

Absolutly.
DeepFreeze great product! There's also a hardware version (different
vendor), basically it's a PCI card, build your image, install the PCI card et
voila'

I'm sure that I'd read some1 was doing something similiar as to the software
solution (e.g. deepfreeze) with windows Toolkit....
That's what I am after as this option would not involve any extra cost!

Any other suggestions welcome (opensource anyone?)
;-)

Perhaps you are thinking of the MS Shared Computer Toolkit. I believe it
has an option to not save any settings. Another alternative is MVP Doug
Knox's Security Console.

Norton's GoBack has such a feature. Works well.

Hi All,

Indeed it was Windows Shared Toolkit (DiskProtect.wsf) that I had seen
recently.

Have also just seen the Norton's GoBack util... Although I hadn't seen the
www.dougknox.com util...

Any suggestions as to which is best before I start trialing them all?

Thank for your help
Danny
